The right court shoes protect your feet, improve your movement, and outlast running shoes by months. Here are the best options for pickleball in 2026.
The Gel-Rocket is the most popular court shoe in pickleball for good reason. It offers excellent lateral stability, ASICS gel cushioning in the heel, and a durable outsole at a reasonable price. Available in standard and wide widths.
The Express Light uses a durable hard-court outsole with a drag guard on the toe. It is slightly heavier than the Gel-Rocket but lasts longer on abrasive outdoor surfaces. The midfoot shank provides excellent torsional stability.
New Balance offers the widest range of width options. The 1006 combines Fresh Foam cushioning with a supportive upper cage. If standard court shoes pinch your forefoot, try this model in a 2E or 4E width.
The Upcourt 5 uses a softer gum rubber outsole that grips indoor wood and synthetic floors without marking. It is lighter than outdoor shoes and costs less, making it ideal for dedicated indoor players.
You need court shoes with lateral support, not pickleball-specific shoes. Tennis shoes, volleyball shoes, and dedicated court shoes all work well. Running shoes do not provide adequate lateral stability.
Look for hard-court shoes with durable outsoles and toe drag protection. The ASICS Gel-Rocket and K-Swiss Express Light are popular choices for outdoor play.
You can, but it is not recommended. Running shoes lack lateral support and will wear out quickly on court surfaces. They also increase your risk of ankle rolls during side-to-side movement.
